To further foster insurance innovation, the EIA nominates and ultimately selects an annual award recipient for the best new idea in insurance underwriting, technology and distribution. In 2011 the winners were as follows:

  • Underwriting:
    • Lexington Insurance
      "Lexplorations"
  • Distribution:
    • Huntington Insurance
      "PC Central"
  • Technology:
    • Risk Metrics
      "Data-as-a-Service (DaaS)"

    • Vertafore
      "WorkSmart"

The EIA will be naming the 2012 award winners on September 12, 2012 at the Entrepreneurial Insurance Symposium in Dallas Texas. Ideas will be judged based upon factors such as:

  1. Applicability to the insurance industry
  2. Impact on the broader marketplace
  3. Financial implications
  4. Unique features
  5. Judges discretion of other relevant factors

The EIA judges panel will select the best underwriting, distribution and technology ideas. These finalists will be invited to make a “Shark Tank” type presentation to the judges panel during the Entrepreneurial Symposium. In addition to the panel of judges, the finalists will be presenting to the 450 attendees at the symposium enabling a blending of judges’ scorecards and popular vote from the attendees. The finalists, rather they become ultimate winners or not, may well walk away with investment capital, underwriting support and a worldwide distribution network. As a minimum, finalists will benefit from major media coverage and exposure to over 450 progressively minded insurance executives.
